H.R. 10881 · 21st Century Vehicle Choice Act

Bring back EV rebates.
Doubled.

They took the future. We want it back. In 2025 Congress ended the federal EV tax credits, the ones you could take as instant money off at the dealer, and the home charger credit too. One bill would bring them back permanently, with the vehicle credits doubled. It needs cosponsors, and with the election days away, every office is listening. Make them hear this.

These are federal tax credits for purchases made after the bill becomes law. The vehicle credits can be transferred to the dealer as an instant discount at purchase. The full new-EV amount applies to vehicles that meet the existing sourcing rules. Income caps apply, and for new EVs they're lower than before, which targets the credit at working families. The home charger credit keeps its $1,000 cap and applies only in eligible (low-income or non-urban) census tracts. Read the bill text.

Questions

Is there a bill to bring back the EV tax credit?

Yes. H.R. 10881, the 21st Century Vehicle Choice Act, was introduced October 22, 2026 by Rep. Greg Landsman (D-OH). It would permanently bring back the federal tax credits for new EVs, used EVs, and home chargers that the 2025 reconciliation law ended.

How much would the new EV tax credit be?

Up to $15,000, double the old $7,500, and you could take it as an instant discount at the dealer. As before, the full amount requires the vehicle to meet the sourcing rules for critical minerals and battery components, and price caps stay at $80,000 for vans, SUVs, and pickups and $55,000 for other vehicles. Income caps are lower than before ($225,000 for joint filers, $169,000 for heads of household, $112,500 for single filers), and it's one per person, lifetime.

Is there a used EV tax credit too?

Yes: up to $8,000 or 60% of the price, whichever is less. It used to be $4,000 or 30%. It can also be taken as a discount at the dealer.

If I buy an EV now, will I get the credit?

No. The credits apply only to purchases made after the bill becomes law. Nothing is retroactive.

Is it law yet?

No. It was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee on October 22, 2026, and it needs cosponsors to move. If it doesn't pass before this Congress ends on January 3, 2027, it has to be reintroduced.
